Bookmaking Workshop on Peaks Island

Join award-winning children’s book illustrator and bookstore owner R. Gregory Christie for a one-hour book binding workshop at the historic Fifth Maine Regiment Museum on Peaks Island. Christie is one of the many talented residents of the Illustration Institute’s Faison Artist Residency this summer.

Christie’s illustrations have been featured widely, including: HBO Kids, PBS children’s show “Between the Lions,” New York City’s subway cars, the 2013 Congo Square New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival poster, and the 2013 United States Post Office “Kwanzaa Forever” stamp.

Co-founder of the Illustration Institute Nancy Gibson Nash said,

“Gregory loves to teach bookmaking that incorporates materials often found for free. Participants will learn a bit about the history of bookbinding, get an overview of bookmaker’s tools, and learn a few techniques to make simple books and pamphlets.”

This workshop is suitable for adults and youth, all abilities. Class fee $30, Class limit to 25, call 207-772-3585 to register.

Built in 1881 as a regimental hall by and for the veterans of the Fifth Maine Regiment of the Civil War, this venue offers another reason why you should attend this workshop!
